BAPE X Undefeated Spring * Summer 2012

The “Hawaiian Collection.” I was expecting something greater …

When A Bathing Ape and Undefeated announced a collabo the other day, the internet took notice. This might leave them wanting a little more. No lie, my uncle has like three of those same exact shirts in his closet … yeah, the one who has 3 cats and plays bingo on Tuesdays.

The collection does have a some solid dope t-shirts tho …

The cut & sew pieces feature two different variations of an intricate co-branded print, further applied to shirts, shorts, bucket hats, skate decks and totebags. The collection will hit stores on June 30 via BAPE STORES and Undefeated retailers. – Hype

SpotLight: Pharrell Williams

Super Producer. Music Artist. Fashion/Style Icon. Creative Genius. The resume is impressive. Here we’ll put a spotlight on three aspects to Skateboard P’s career: music production, his discography and the mark he made on street wear. *Neptune sound*

Yeah, He Makes Beats

Chances are that at least one of your favorite songs had something to do with the Neptunes. Together with Chad Hugo,
they have created hits for artists ranging from Britney Spears and Justin TImberlake to Jay-Z and Ludacris.

The Neptunes’ sound is a distinctive brand of off-kilter, stripped-down electronic funk with sounds from Middle Eastern and Asian music including percussion and woodwind. – Wikipedia

With 24 Top 10 songs from ’98 through the 2000’s, it seems deserved that Billboard would call them the best of the decade in 2009. The Neptune sound was distinct, original, and many of my favorite songs growing up (“Grindin”, “Drop It Like It’s Hot”, “Frontin”) are all still relevant today.

(He even scored the entire soundtrack for box-office hit Despicable Me)

Forefather of Modern-Day Swag

Many of the styles Pharrell was rockin’ in ’03 are popular today. That whole “I’m a rapper that’s gonna try to skateboard” thing? … He created that lane. Let’s not forget he was deemed “Best Dressed Man” by Esquire in 2005, and co-founded BBC and Ice Cream. He’s also got ‘collabos’ with Hermes, Louis Vuitton, Domeau & Pérès (dope!), G-Shock and the list goes on …
